Journey within

The seven chakras

From the grounded stability of the root to the quiet connection of the crown, the chakras describe an inward path. We share them as traditional symbols for reflection — a language for noticing, not a set of claims.

  1. 01 / 07 · Root

    Muladhara

    Stability & Grounding

Every journey inward begins with feeling the ground beneath you. Muladhara is traditionally understood as the seat of steadiness — the sense of being held, supported and at home in the body.

    Placement
    Base of the spine
    Element
    Earth
    Lotus
    Four petals

In practice: Standing poses, slow walking, and noticing the weight of the body meeting the earth.

  2. 02 / 07 · Sacral

    Svadhisthana

    Creativity & Flow

Like water finding its way, Svadhisthana is associated with fluidity, feeling and creative expression — the freedom to move with life rather than against it.

    Placement
    Lower abdomen
    Element
    Water
    Lotus
    Six petals

In practice: Gentle hip-opening movement and breath that flows without force.

  3. 03 / 07 · Solar Plexus

    Manipura

    Inner Fire & Confidence

Manipura — 'city of jewels' — is linked in tradition with inner fire: will, clarity of purpose and the warmth to act with intention.

    Placement
    Navel region
    Element
    Fire
    Lotus
    Ten petals

In practice: Core awareness, steady standing sequences and mindful effort balanced with rest.

  4. 04 / 07 · Heart

    Anahata

    Compassion & Balance

At the centre of the seven, Anahata bridges the earthly and the subtle. It is traditionally connected with compassion, openness and balance between giving and receiving.

    Placement
    Centre of the chest
    Element
    Air
    Lotus
    Twelve petals

In practice: Heart-opening postures, gratitude reflection and unhurried, spacious breathing.

  5. 05 / 07 · Throat

    Vishuddha

    Expression & Clarity

Vishuddha — 'purification' — is associated with honest expression and the clarity that comes from listening as deeply as we speak.

    Placement
    Throat
    Element
    Space (Akasha)
    Lotus
    Sixteen petals

In practice: Chanting, humming breath and moments of attentive silence.

  6. 06 / 07 · Third Eye

    Ajna

    Insight & Awareness

Ajna is traditionally the centre of inner seeing — the witness that observes thought without being carried away by it.

    Placement
    Between the eyebrows
    Element
    Mind / Light
    Lotus
    Two petals

In practice: Focused gazing (trataka), breath counting and seated stillness.

  7. 07 / 07 · Crown

    Sahasrara

    Connection & Stillness

Sahasrara, the thousand-petalled lotus, symbolises a sense of connection beyond the individual self — the quiet that remains when effort falls away.

    Placement
    Crown of the head
    Element
    Beyond the elements
    Lotus
    The thousand-petalled lotus

In practice: Meditation, deep relaxation and simply resting in awareness.
